Can the RTX 3070 run GTA 6?

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070: High tier in our estimate. Plenty of GPU, the same 8 GB as cheaper cards: the clearest example of why speed and VRAM age differently.

Speed is not the problem

When the RTX 3070 launched it was positioned against the previous generation's flagship, and that raw speed is still there. In shader terms it is comfortably above the PS5-class baseline and well into the high tier.

Memory is

Eight gigabytes is the same buffer that entry-level cards ship with today. When a game asks for more video memory than the card has, it spills into system RAM and frame times turn jagged even if the average frame rate looks fine. That stutter, not a low frame rate, is the realistic failure mode for a 3070 in a large open world.

The remedy is simple and cheap: textures one step below maximum, and a sensible upscaling mode instead of native 1440p.

How we would run it

  • 1440p output with DLSS Balanced, textures medium-to-high.
  • Shadows and volumetrics at medium; they are the heaviest settings per unit of quality.
  • No ray tracing. The hardware supports it, but the budget is better spent on resolution.

A word on buying one used

If you are considering a used 3070 for GTA 6, pause: you would be buying 8 GB at a time when 12 GB is the safer target. For an owner it remains a strong card; as a new purchase it is a harder sell.

Measuring your own VRAM use today

You do not have to guess how a 3070 will cope. Open a monitoring overlay such as MSI Afterburner in your most demanding current game and watch dedicated video memory. If it already sits near 8 GB at your usual settings, you have a direct preview of what a larger open world will do.

If it sits comfortably at 5 or 6 GB, you have a bit more room than the generic advice suggests.

The processor on the other side

A 3070 is quick enough to be limited by an older CPU at 1080p and sometimes at 1440p. If you pair it with a six-core processor from several years ago, expect the CPU to set the ceiling in crowded city scenes.

Questions about the RTX 3070

Does the RTX 3070 support DLSS 3 frame generation?

No. DLSS upscaling is available, but frame generation arrived with the 40 series. FSR 3 frame generation is a hardware-agnostic alternative if the game offers it.

Is the RTX 3070 faster than a PS5?

On paper its raw rendering power is above the PS5's. The console, however, has a unified 16 GB pool and a platform tuned for it, so real-world comparison depends heavily on the game's PC port.

RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT for GTA 6?

The 3070 is faster in many games and has DLSS and stronger ray tracing. The 6700 XT has 12 GB against 8 GB, which can matter more in a texture-heavy game.
