What actually changed

The 4070 Super takes the 4070 and gives it roughly a fifth more shader cores while leaving the memory configuration alone: still 12 GB on a 192-bit bus. In practice it lands between the 4070 and the 4070 Ti, and it draws only slightly more power.

Why it still is not "ultra"

More cores raise frame rates. They do not raise the memory ceiling, and in a large open-world game it is the memory that decides how far you can push textures at 4K. That is the single reason our estimate stops at high.

A 1440p profile worth starting from

• 1440p, high settings, DLSS Quality: the card's home turf.
• Textures high; if you see stutter, step down one notch.
• Ray tracing on a low setting if frame times allow, otherwise off.
• Frame generation if you want a 100+ FPS display and have a decent base frame rate.

Worth the premium over the 4070?

If the price gap is small, yes: the extra performance is real. If it is large, remember that neither card changes the memory situation, so the money may be better kept for a card with more VRAM.

How to tell you have hit the 12 GB limit

The signs are consistent. Textures that stay blurry for a moment after you turn a corner, sudden stutter when driving through unseen parts of the map, and a frame rate that is fine in a menu and awful in the open world. When that happens, lower texture quality one step before touching anything else, and check whether your overlay shows memory use pinned at the card's maximum.

Power connectors

The Founders Edition uses the 16-pin connector with an adapter in the box, while many partner cards use conventional 8-pin connectors. Look at the specific model you are buying and compare it with what your power supply offers, since that, not the GPU, is the likelier source of a build problem.
