Where it sits

The RTX 5070 aims at 1440p and delivers high-tier performance at 250 W. Its 12 GB of GDDR7 on a 192-bit bus is enough for that resolution, which is why the card feels well matched to it.

DLSS 4 and a 12 GB card

Multi frame generation adds smoothness, and a strong upscaler lets you target 4K output from a lower internal resolution. Both help a 12 GB card stay inside its memory budget, which is a quiet advantage of this generation's feature set.

The marketing claim, and the reality

Nvidia compared this card with the RTX 4090 when it was announced, but that comparison counted generated frames. In raw rendering the 4090 is far ahead. Judge the 5070 as the capable 1440p card it is, not as a flagship in disguise.

A starting configuration

  • 1440p, high settings, DLSS Quality.
  • Textures high; step down if you see memory-related stutter.
  • Multi frame generation only if your base frame rate is already above about 50 FPS.

What "12 GB of GDDR7" really tells you

GDDR7 raises memory bandwidth, which is how fast the card can move data. It does not raise capacity, which is how much it can hold. A 12 GB card with fast memory is better at feeding the GPU but is no larger. For a game that needs many gigabytes of textures at once, capacity is the number that decides whether you hit a limit.

4K on a 5070

It can reach 4K with DLSS Performance or Balanced. The 12 GB then becomes the thing to watch, so keep textures just under maximum. Native 4K at maximum settings is the unlikely scenario for this card.

Playing at 1080p on a 5070

At 1080p this card will often be waiting for the CPU, so it is rarely the best use of the money. If you do own a 1080p monitor, DLDSR lets the card render at a higher resolution and scale the result down, which improves sharpness and uses spare GPU power. It is a way to make a 1080p display look better rather than wasting the card.

Questions about the RTX 5070

Is the RTX 5070 as fast as an RTX 4090?

No. The claim relied on frame generation. In raw rendering the 4090 is much faster.

RTX 5070 or RTX 4070 Super?

Broadly similar speed with newer features on the 5070. Both have 12 GB.

Is 12 GB enough for GTA 6?

For 1440p, yes. It is the limit to watch at 4K.
