Same family as the PS5's graphics chip
Both current consoles use AMD's RDNA 2 architecture, and so does the RX 6600. That shared lineage is a small but real reason to expect fewer surprises from a console-first game: the engine has been tuned for hardware of this design for years.
What 8 GB on a 128-bit bus means
The RX 6600 is a 1080p card. Its 8 GB is adequate for that resolution and its narrow bus limits it as resolution climbs. Where the console GPU has far more compute units and a big shared memory pool, the desktop card has a considerably smaller budget, so expect to turn settings down rather than up.
A 1080p plan
- 1080p, low-to-medium settings, FSR in Quality mode.
- Aim for 30 FPS and treat 60 FPS as a bonus.
- Textures medium; shadows and volumetrics low.
- Skip ray tracing entirely: the hardware supports it, but at this tier it will not be playable in a heavy open world.
Is it a good place to start?
As an upgrade from an older card, it is a sensible entry point to the minimum tier. As a purchase for GTA 6 specifically, with no PC version announced, we would wait for official requirements first.
Resizable BAR on a budget build
On AMD cards, Smart Access Memory (the same feature as Resizable BAR) can add a few percent of performance for free. It needs support in the motherboard BIOS and a reasonably recent CPU. On a budget system, it is one of the first settings to check, and it costs nothing.
The upgrade ladder from here
If the 6600 turns out to be too slow, the next sensible stops are the RX 6700 XT for more memory and speed within the same generation, or the RX 7800 XT for a larger jump. Neither needs a new platform, which makes the 6600 a low-risk starting point.

Questions about the RX 6600
Is the RX 6600 enough for 60 FPS in GTA 6?
Our estimate says 30 FPS at 1080p with lower settings is the realistic target; 60 FPS would need further reductions and upscaling.
RX 6600 or RTX 3050?
The RX 6600 is generally faster in raster performance on a similar power budget. The 3050 has DLSS and better ray tracing, which are minor advantages at this tier.
Does the RX 6600 support FSR 3 frame generation?
AMD positions FSR 3 for RDNA 2 and newer cards, but whether GTA 6 supports it on PC is not known. Check the game's own notes when they appear.
